Hyderabad: To address rising diesel prices, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will levy a tax on passenger fares from April 9. The diesel levy is set at Rs. 2 per passenger for Ordinary Pallevelugu and City services and Rs. 5 per passenger for Express, Deluxe, Super Luxury, City Metro Express & Deluxe, and all AC services. The minimum fare of Rs. 10 for Pallevelugu and ordinary town services will remain the same so as not to burden the common man and short distance passengers.
TSRTC buses consume about six lakh liters of diesel every day. Oil price has increased by Rs. 35 from December 2021 prices.
Diesel price was Rs. 83 per liter in Dec 2021 and now it is Rs. 118 per liter (for bulk users). This price increase had a serious impact on the Company’s expenses.
According to TSRTC, the increase in the price of diesel over the past few days has necessitated the collection of a tax on passenger fares. This will allow the company to recoup some of the increased expenses and maintain operations, he said.
